How to setup barcode scanner and print barcode stickers?

I have been using Samba for my pizza shop and it's going pretty well with no problems. Now, I intend to use the lovely SambaPOS for my bookstore in which a barcode scanner is very essential. how do I implement a barcoding system with SambaPOS? and how do I create barcode stickers for all products?

Thank you

Good to see things are going great.

Books usually have ISBN and/or EAN barcodes on them, which barcode scanners will read. I suggest the Motorola DS9208.

When entering your Products(books), enter the books barcode. You do not need to add the books to a menu to scan them, but having them in the menu does allow you to search to see if you have had that book in stock.

At the present, SambaPOS does not tell you your out of stock.

SambaPOS will not print barcodes, but there is plenty of software that can do that, and if you do need a barcode printer, look at something like the Zebra GC420, as they are very reliable and usually come with software. They are not cheap, but well worth it.

Other than a barcode scanner, you have what you need in SambaPOS to run the bookstore.

It's a stationary shop by the way, I might have used the wrong description when I said 'bookstore', sorry.

So I will be having lots of items (including books) with so many of them having same prices (like pens, pencils, sharpeners, notebooks .. etc.) Does it work the same way? adding each item(Product) with its barcode? I don't care about stock, I just want Samba to recognize price for each item from the barcode printed on it.

Thanks for the help.

Technically, it doesn't matter what your selling, as long as it has a barcode your all set.

I'm currently setting up a Motorcycle shop. The hardest part is the stock without barcodes. For these you need to create the barcodes. So planning is the biggest part.

I wrote a script to mass import products into V3 - http://forum2.sambapos.org/index.php/topic,1591.0.html

I need to upload a new version to handle the latest changes to SambaPOS, but this will make it easier to get started.

splendid, thank you
