If you are using compact sql it does not support some important indexing features and might cause slowness. Please consider upgrading to SQL Server Express and check http://forum2.sambapos.org/index.php/topic,1394.msg6539.html#msg6539 message to create missing indexes.

Which database are you using?
On login screen, at bottom left corner have white letter showing version and databast type (ie SAMBA POS 2.99 - CE). If you can't provide that no one can help.
