I am having trouble setting up the ticket lister widgets, every time I select the ticket Lister option and then go into the settings screen it seems to change the widget in to another type of widget or it is not working as a ticket lister.

Can you tell me what do you see instead? Can you upload a screenshot?
I select the 'ticket lister' widget (the last option on the drop down list), but when I open the settings box it shows 'misc' on the top
