How does inventory work?

After putting all the products in the inventory and you've started selling teh products. How do you know the amount of products you have left? Or the amount of products you've sold... Can you please list the steps to doing this? Can you even do it? Or do they just tell you the products you've sold ( Amount of cash in accounts )
